Default Project "Road Kill" previously known as "Rust Bucket"

ive been posting things in the ft wood section every now and then but i thought i would start a build thread and round all the pics up in here and let everyone see the rust fixin fun

now keep in mind i am no master welder and have little experiance welding thin metal but im getting better.
so here is what i started with. a 1977 cj5 or rust bucket as it is known

    myjeep.jpg

a taste of the rust i found in the windshield frame.
    PIC-0016.jpg

with a rusted out windshield frame i had to go on the hunt for one i could use and i found one off an early yj that was in great shape so i nabbed it and here it is
    PIC-0015.jpg

more to come as i round up the photos

so thats the rust i have fixed to date. i have started removing the tub from the frame so i can fix the rusted rear floor and drivers side floor without wondering if im gonna blow up because of the gas tank.

here is a pic of the rear floor.
    Picture2019.jpg

    and the drivers floor

    Picture2017.jpg

and the jeep with all the parts off waiting to remove the body mounts that havent rusted out yet
    Picture2013.jpg

and this pic brings me up to date as it sits in my front yard. i just got all the body mounts off and have some blocks under the tub.
    Picture2015.jpg

more to come as i get it done. theres lots more rust fixen fun to come. and i know they make patches for my jeep but i have lots of scrap metal around thats the same thickness as the jeep and i just cant see myself spending the money on those patches when i can spend it on needed things like tires and such...

well after getting the tub off the frame and being able to inspect it better i came to the conclusion that the tub was not worth any more time. there wasnt a whole lot holding it together besides the scrap metal i had already welded in place so i set out looking for a better tub and found a good one. it still hase some of the normal issues like rust holes under the rollbar and some issues with the rear floor but thats about where the rust stops.

it had been sand blasted and primed has a new rear floor waiting to be installed and not much needing to be fixed. only issue was it was several hours away but the price was right. so i set out saturday morning to get it and when i got there i got the tub (and new floor) hood and grill (witch had been sand blasted also) a pair of front fenders that wasnt rusted apart like mine were. i didnt take any pics when i got home yesterday or today since i started removing the rear floor as soon as i got home but i will take some pic's tomorrow and post my progress.

here is a few pic's of the issue spots as you can see there isnt much wrong with this tub compaired to my old one
the rear floor is almost finnished being welded in and then i can fix the other couple spots and take it to have a mancave liner put in this weekend (at least get it there by this weekend any way)
