I have heard many stories about the cheap u-joint straps on a Dana 35 loosening up and causeing all sorts of headaches. Well this past weekend at Azusa Canyon it happened to me. My straps loosened up and broke off snapping the bolts inside the pinion yoke and my driveline flew off (it was found later thankfully). If you are like me and dont have a lot of money to upgrade axles (yet!), I got a pinion yoke off of a Dana 44 which have u-bolt style straps which are stronger. Along with that, you have to replace the pinion seal. The fix took me about 45 minutes in the driveway and cost about $70 (including a new Spicer u-joint). So if you find yourself with this problem, you now have a better way to fix it by doing a cheap upgrade.
