That gap is supposed to be there. It's an "inspection plate" so you can check out the fly wheel and torque converter without dropping the tranny. As for the leak, maybe a bad torque converter? Over filled it?
Specs:
97 TJ auto I6.
history:
Replaced T-case about 5 months ago cause I beat the Shit out of it off road. After then It had been leaking from the seal in between the t-case and tranny. After a long 3 days off I decided today would be the day to work on it so I tightened up the seal and began filling it up.
Problem:
As I'm refilling the Tranny with ATF, through the dipstick tube, a waterfall appeared in my garage... here is where it is coming from. (tranny up top, oil pan botom)

I'm not sure if that's the proper way to refill or not, but i had done it in the past with no problems. So My first Question is What the hell is that gap (Where its leaking)? and my second of course is how do I stop Niagara falls from flowing? Thanks in advanced!

sounds like the front pump seal went bad. it is the seal at the front of the tranny that seals the main shaft with the torque converter. if you let the tranny hang for a while-days/weeks then it could have damaged the front pump seal

hmm. It wasnt hanging but for a half an hour for when I ran to the store for the Fluids. Is it pretty easy to replace? I'll See if maybe I just overfilled it. I kinda just walked off from it cause I got Pissed. haha.
Will not leak from there if overfilled. Only way to leak there is a bad front seal. To replace take off starter, take off flywheel/torque converter bolts. Slide converter back then unhook everything fro
Trans then unbolt trans and drop it with the converter. Once down slide off torque converter then pull front seal and replace. Be sure when putting the converter back on trans you spin it and wiggle till it drop 3 time into the trans. Then remount the trans. If you don't get the converter all the way in before mounting then you can very easily destroy the front pump

It was actually overfilled. ALOT. Lesson learned never walk away when it comes to fluids. check the dip stick! Thanks guys for your help
Remember tranny goes by "PINTS" not quarts.

Like i said, I thought the tranny was leaking. but it was acually the t-case. so when I filled up I went with my gut (Bad choice) and filled up the tranny, instead of checking the fluids first. So instead of the recommended dosage, i had double. thats why it overflowed.
