USMC Poll: what to do with the jeep

I am currently in a crisis.

    1) keep the tj w/ 50k miles lift tires and ton of extras

    2) get a 2 dr jk rubi and start over from scratch

    3) find a scrambler worth building

the reason why: family of 4 and I want to be able to take them all with me on my trips. I feel they would be more likely to have a good time with a bit more room ie the JK or I can put in all new seats in the TJ and be good to go?( I have a small trailer I am building to hold the camping gear packs ect, so all the interior room is just for us and snacks) or build the scrambler of my dreams( if I can find one not rusted to sh*t for less than 1 billion dollars)

I have a lot of money sunk into the ole tj, it is rust free I'm the 2nd owner, just hit 50k miles, it is a great jeep, I'm just leary of finishing my build to find out the family is crammed in there and doesn't want to go.

So I could use some family feed back please

    Thanks ,
    Dillon

though there is more room in the back of a 2dr JK, there still isn't enough to justify buying one just for room. I'd say hang onto the TJ and bide your time (and put your money in the bank) until the 4 door JK is widely available on the used market. So many of them are selling that you should be able to pick one up in a couple of years for a lot less money than a new 2dr rubi time now. By the time you built a scrambler up you could have just waited and bought the JK unlimited. It'll fit 35s with just a tad of trimming or a minimal amount of lift, saving you time on mods and money for components.

Just my thoughts on the matter. I have to pay off my Tj before I can even think of movig up to the 4 door, but with kids and dogs and everything, I think it's almost inevitable that I either get a bigger jeep or start making the 4 door tacoma my trail rig (it's paid for).

I agree. Some people move their seat brackets back a few inches to make more room for back seaters. If you like the way your TJ is now, maybe just scooting the seat back will suffice until you can raise the fundage for a four door. There's a guy I wheel with who has a four door on 35's, it does just fine and there's tons of room. The back seats are nice and it has a real trunk, probably a little smaller than the back of my TJ with the seat removed.

I agree with the rest. Keep the TJ and maybe find a JK 4 door later or if you could afford one now you might be able to find a used one. I think later on you would regret getting rid of the TJ. My only question would be how old are the kids. I would say if they are teenagers then might need more room but if still under the age of 11 you can probably do well with the TJ.

We have an 2006 LJ and I have never wheeled without the family. The wife and I are upfront and a 6yr old and 2 yr old in the back. We have plenty of room for extra stuff and I have storage placed throughout the jeep. I learned that there is a lot of wasted space in a jeep and if you can use that space wisely, then it seems like you have all kinds of room.

I say return the TJ to stock, find a nice LJ, and bolt all of your mods to it. LJ is perfect for a family of four!

Heck, when you find the LJ the dealer may let you swap the parts over a weekend.
05 LJ Unlimited Rubicon. RE 3.5" short arm lift. 1" body and motor mount lift. 35" BFG M/T KMII's. 5.13 gears. Skid row and Jeep Medic belly up skid plates. Rokmen and Jeeperman bumpers. PSC rockers and full corners. Line X'd interior. Warn 9.5ti. Dual batteries. Dual tops. Snorkel. Full and half doors.

A pink tutu. Just for fun. I'm that guy. Not the guy the rules are changing for though. My hair was also sprayed pink.

lol. well, somebody has to wear a tutu. I mean, I've heard of jeeping naked, so a tutu shouldn't be too much of a stretch.
