Thumbs up 97 tj death wobble help!!!!

So On my way to Pt this morning my jeep started shaking violently from the right side, after I hit a bump in the pavement going ~30 mph. This is something i do daily cause I live on a BRAC Base that is pretty much like that through out. Anyways I thought my tire was coming off so I pulled over (scared shitless) and noticed my tire was fine. What could the problem be? I found a few articles but they all seem vague. If this only occurs after hitting a bump, couldnt I narrow it down? Of course I have a 2 in lift and runnin 32s if that helps. Thanks MJ's! I plan on checking all the bushings etc after dinner, I will post the results.

Check ALL of your suspension bolts. Get a FSM and then torque to proper specs. If that doesn't work, get back to us. There may be a little more to it.

I did a visual/audible inspection, The thing that didnt set right with me was the really squishy sounding steering stabilizer. Is that normal? Because I've never actually listened to one on purpose. sorry it took soo long to reply the findings, I was working on another project, replacing my inside door handles. I would never wish that job on any of my enemies.

a bad steering stabilizer will not cause a wobble. sounds like you have something loose, or a hollowed out bolt hole somewhere. get under there with a torque wrench then change out the steering stabilizer after you cure your DW. if you swap it out now it may just mask the problem. there are several threads on the causes and cures of DW. make sure you post up when you find the culprit so that anyone with that may benefit!

x2 on the stabilizer, make sure you check both ends of the trac bar and all the steering tie rod ends. There is loads of folklore and myth surrounding death wobble on the interwebs some from inconstancies in what DW is and feels like. usually if you are in doubt if it is DW, its not. DW is an experience that when you have it, there is no doubt.

Thanks for the help and links, I read up on a post that miljeep had (http://www.militaryjeepers.com/commu...t=death+wobble ) and I laughed because his story was exactly like mine. Even the problem and solution! The top bolt was loose on the track bar. So I tightened it down to 110lbs. Advice to others who have this problem: Start with things that are cheap and always Always start at the top. This pic helped me out a lot, since i'm not a mechanic. (Slowly becoming one because of my jeep tho) When members were posting such things as Track bar, and tie rod I was completely lost. but this helped. got it from 4x4xplor.com
