    Default Scored a tranny/t-case

Picked up the Ford NP435 and 205 I've been watching for the past couple weeks. Got both for $150. The trans has got a mean granny of 6.68:1 and will give me a little better highway speeds than the 3 speed auto I'm running now plus a lot more strength. Final drive will be 53:1 in Four Low w/out a doubler. A 205/203 doubler will go in down the road for some real crawlin. Hells Yeah!!

I'm picking up the bell-housing and linkage and all that stuff in January while I'm passing through NC. I may end up doing it while I'm in Quantico if I can get all the parts together.

With those kinda crawl ratios...imagine the torque...better start planning 1ton axles as well....then bigger tires for clearance under the diff....its a downward spiral of a money pit. One thing I like about our jeep thing is no 2 rigs are exactly alike. Different terrain and use of vehicle usually depicts which direction upgrades go in general. In my mind its kind of a balance thing between performance and breakage yet keeping the rig streetable since I can only wheel an average of 6-8times a year. For example I stretched my rig a couple inches to be able to use the auto w od in my swap. Since I am in chicago manual is a major pia with a stop light every 4blocks or less. And keeping the OD paid off. 1700 rpms at 70-75 mph was sweet and worth the hours of fabrication. Now to try and figure out a bullet prof front end while maintaining my 5x4.5 bolt pattern and decent clearance...ugggg.... Love the Full size...keep the updates coming

Full width axles...on my WANT list. When I do it, I'll use a set of Ford axles Drivers's dropped. I can get them much cheaper and easier around here than everybody trying to get Chevy Full widths. There's Sterling 10.25's and 10.5's all over the place. I'll do that when I get rid of this leaf lift and go SOA. 35's or 36's are going under it next. When I start really getting crazy with this Jeep it won't be a DD/wheeler. I'll be able to spend more time on well thought out mods. If I was worried about OD I'd have stayed auto and spent butt-loads on adapters. I want more grunt with the same gears in the diff's. Will have no adverse effects on highway miles, since I'll use 2-4 on the street, and I'll save a few HP and RPM's not eaten up by the torque converter.

LUCKY..... I'm going to pick up my new to me TH400 next monday since my tranny reciently died. Good luck with your drop in as I'm going to need luck with mine. I wish I could get ahold of a manual tranny with a manual transfer case. Getting tired of running in 4x4 24/7..

    Good luck,
    Merritt
