    Default looking at a cj2a

right now i am looking at picking up a 1947 cj 2a and i am wanting to know if it is worth snagging or passing

the price is $400 and it has a title and a solid frame(passed the screwdriver test)

    the tub is shot

    hood is good

    fenders are fixable

    grill is good

    windshield frame is swiss cheese

    engine is locked up

the trans will not shift nor will the tcase

the front input on the tcase turns freely

the tires don't hold air and are not round

i know i am looking at about 10k to turn this into a runner and a driver i will not restore it to origanal it will be modded into a light wheeler and sunny day dd 31"-33" max tire

    so here are the pics

Uh...thats a tuff call. Honestly its pretty far gone. The two saving graces I would say is if it has a solid and unmollested/repaired frame and if all the proper data plates are there. This is a case of may be better to pass unless its free...sorry. I find any jeep painful to pass up but knowing what all is involved you should prob start with something a little less shot-out.

If you get this, it will be interesting to follow the restoration. Good luck.

The good news is that there is not a single part that is not still available for it! Everything from big body parts to the smallest nut, bolt, or washer. Good luck...I'll watch and live viacariously!

I would walk up with 200 in hand, but other than that, I would walk away from it. I recently just turned down a running, driving cj-2a that had a questionable body and a 12 volt conversion for 700. In terms of a resto-mod, it was just borderline of being worth it in my opinion. If for a couple hundred more you can save close to a thousand, plus the cost of your time diagnosing problems, I'd wait around for something better.

Funny thing is there is a near complete 3a in the the junkyard here in el paso!! I NEVER see these in the yards...and this is in a Puul-a-part too! missing the grille and is pretty far gone but the frame is unmollested....wonder what "scrap value" would be...heehee.
