    Default Battery discusion

Hopefully before the cliffs run the day after t4t I will have bought a new battery. I have heard contradictory things on batteries and which will be best for me. 5.2L v8 YJ with an 8274 winch. I understand tyhe saftey of the gel style optima but have heard complaints on the yellow top since assembly moved to mexico. I stumbled across this http://www.batterymart.com/p-Mega-Cr...f890c072a7cf,0 . What do you guys run, what do you wish you were running, what are you experiences of running different style batteries?

I have a yellow top in both my YJ and my Rubi, the wife's TJ has a red top. When I was looking for the yellow top for the Rubi I looked around for others where I was but battery selection is limited here and I needed one that day. Next time I will probably get an Odyssey.

Opti was a great battery...in it day and those days are gone. Sears dropped them. Why? Simple. Warranty claims were eating their lunch.
What did Sears go with? Odyssey.

What makes odyssey so good? 99.99% pure lead + shock resistance.

    Who else uses them? Military!

    Why? See 2nd question Above

Are you telling me that Sears batteries are rehashed Odyssey batteries? Yes!

Well are Opti shock proof? See for yourself...http://www.savagesun4x4.com/enter/fl...es_a_dump.html

^^^ Military still uses Optimas. Lots of vehicles and all the brand new light weight howitzers all use blue tops.

Then again, the military is usually a little behind the curve when it comes to updates for a lot of things.

First battery in the LJ was a Optima Blue top. Used it on several REALLY hard winch pulls. It lasted about 3 years and then just died with no warning.

Now I have dual Optima yellow tops in a Mean Green tray. My alternator died and those two Optimas ran the ignition and headlights for almost 3 hours from PA to FT Belvoir in VA. I love em!
05 LJ Unlimited Rubicon. RE 3.5" short arm lift. 1" body and motor mount lift. 35" BFG M/T KMII's. 5.13 gears. Skid row and Jeep Medic belly up skid plates. Rokmen and Jeeperman bumpers. PSC rockers and full corners. Line X'd interior. Warn 9.5ti. Dual batteries. Dual tops. Snorkel. Full and half doors.
