    Default CJ Heat/Air options

So the heater core in the CJ has gone to shit. Coolant all over the passenger floor board. To top it off, only half the options work on the housing anyway.

What other options are out there? Since I'm going to be rebuilding anyway, may as well upgrade to cool shit.

    Thanks in advance

I put all new cables on mine, and got the flapper doors working.

I flushed the heater core really well, and did the blower motor upgrade.

It'll cook you out at temps down to 10* F and keeps it comfortable in temps down to -5* F (of course, in those temps I'm wearing big boots and gloves!)

Other than stock, I think the best bet would be a Mojave heater, with the duct option for the defrosters.

All you need in the CJ is floor and defrost heat, and this works great. The one CJ I've been in with a Mojave was super warm. The owner had to fab up his own adapter to hook to the CJ defrost (which is oval)

If you keep the stock heater, make sure you seal the housing when putting it back together. And make sure the driver side fresh air door is either shut, or working. Other wise you get cold ir blasted right at your feet, wether the heater is working good or not!

The 'combination' door/cable (Fresh air/heat/defrost) is the hardest one to get working right. If that one works good, the stock heater works well.

Yeah, I was moving towards this direction. I just need to figure out how I'm going to hook up the defroster.

I took the heater housing apart on my 1979 CJ7, fixed the diverter door and the rubber seal, replaced the cables, the core and did the motor up grade ( from a Chev Blazer I think) about 15 years ago. Two years ago I ripped it all out and went with Vintage Air and just love it, summer and winter.
Good luck its not a weekend project, they never are!

I have a rare version in my CJ-7, it's a 76' the first year for sevens. It works outstanding and the blower motor is inside the Jeep not sticking through the fire wall. I didn't have to modify anything as it workes perfect as is. I will however be adding rear heat to both of my CJ's. The plan is to y off of the heater hoses and fiberglass a set of aero-quip #8 teflon hoses into my floor to the rear of the jeep and add another heater core back there. 1) it will keep the kids warm and 2) it will defrost all 3 back windows.
