    Default Radiator hose blew off

While driving home from work yesterday at 65MPH on the freeway my top radiator hose blew off. I refilled the radiator and drove with the cap loose to a auto parts store and got a new cap. Finished driving home with no problems with new cap on tight.

Any ideas? Possible head gasket/head cracked?

If you do not have time to do it right the first time, how do you have time do do it over?

The top hose came off the neck and was just hanging there, clamp was still on the hose. After I put the new cap on, I drove about 15 miles and stopped and checked the hose. It was not coming off and the hose was not hard like there was too much pressure in it.

Just checked the oil and it looks good, no water in it.

Good possibility that the clamp just came loose enough to let the hose slip off under pressure.

I hope so, as I have to drive back to Oklahoma on the 1st. I have to work all week, 120 miles round trip, so if there is a problem I hope it shows up this week and not on the drive back to Oki.

most likely clamp loosened and hose backed off, like Sr Beaver said. Check the others just in case. If hose & clamp feels good should not be further issue.

typical jeep gremlins... ive had them come off before with a pressurized system but never on a stock one. make sure when you put them on theyre dry and clamped on good. when i build performance minded motors i use aquanet on all the hoses. helps them slide on and when it dries its makes everything tacky.

When I have seen rad hoses blow off it is the result of 1 of 2 things. Loose clamp and or failing hose.

Hoses get old and get soft much like us guys and like us when they get hot instead of getting firm they just get puffy. This weakness in the hot hose will allow the hose to expand to much and cause the clamp to slide it's way off.

Fix. We can take Viagra but the hose need be replaced...
