Default Photos of my new dash/instrument panel under construction.

So over winter break, while my heep is indoors and away from the halite road salt, I decided to crack it open and work on it a little bit.

I replaced the seized window hinges and swapped out the dash with one from a CJ 7 (?) It still needs a bit of work before the conversion will be complete but it's coming along quite nicely IMO.

Nice!! Now all you need are a CJ grill, hood, and drop down tailgate!!

    Looking good!

I keep my CJ locked up after the salty crap starts hitting the road also! No sense in ruining perfectly solid Jeeps with road salt!

Yeah! I find the salty undercoat treatment doesnt work very well on the steel bits. Anyhow- it's a lot more fun when I can drive around with the doors off.

Today, I wired in a pair of 5" Jensen marine speakers to replace the ratty sounding ones on my old dash. I also cut holes for my light controls and installed those.

next step will be to attach that cat litter box in the corner of the photo.

I temporarily fitted my dash again today and started matching new wiring to the old harness. I've got the battery and oil pressure gauges working so far.

I ran into a bump with my speedometer cable. apparently it has 2 different sized threaded ends however the cable I need has the same sized threaded end on both sides. I'll come up with some kind of work around I think.

What are you going to do about the defroster vents for the windshield, I have the same issue and not sure how to do it. I dont really want to cut the wind shield frame like on my org CJ window frame.
Looks great so far, keep at it as I hear it may warm up some day soon.

I think what I'm going to do is use sheet tin or aluminum to make some wedge shaped diverters and then pop rivet them on the front of the panel where the crash pad would go. then I can just drill some large holes in the panel so that the defrost heat passes through the panel and is diverted up to the windshield. I should really MSPaint this so people can see what I mean.

At any rate, it's not exactly a high priority for me. I only really drive it during the parts of the year when it's too warm for the windshield to be frosty anyhow.

It's supposed to be in the low 40s this week around here.

OH LOOK WHAT SHOWED UP IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY!

    Update:

Today temperatures in this part of Maine got above 45F so I made a point to go out and work for a couple hours on my electrical bits. I wired the illumination bulbs for the gauges and fixed the driver's side stereo speaker (bad splice) and then the fender flare turn signals (bulb fell out - :doh

I also re-attached the legally required mirrors.

Then I installed the glovebox door I got in the mail.

Some people have sports car/racing decals. I have decals that warn my passengers of the dangers involving rollovers.
