    Default What am I Dooooooing!!??!!??!!

Just a ranDumb vent since this Jeep seems to be fighting me tooth and nail. I bought what I was told was a narrowed Full Size Jeep Dana 44 for the front of my Scrambler project. It was supposed to be a 4.10 geared, ARB equipped axle set up for SOA and converted to 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern.
Well...it is and it isn't. It is a dana 44 but not a full size jeep one. I does have 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern but that was by using Scout outer knuckles as far as I can tell. Since it didn't come with any steering parts like the drag link or tie rods I am in a pickle trying to figure out how to make it work. The housing itself is certainly NOT FSJ. It appears to originally have been an SOA set up but as far as I can tell, only IH used them this way in a passenger side diff. Ford did it with Dvr side diffs and GM and Dodge are a possibility but I am just not sure. Gonna try and find a BOM to find out what I got.
It will bolt in...I can make it fit SOA but I have no clue how to find steering parts to work without going custom. And that is money I don't have. The other option is swap to FSJ stuff and then I still gotta find wheels...Ugh. This is becoming a big can of worms...

Sounds like your about to be a junkyard expert. Just piece it all together. I'm sure online there is enough information to build a custom setup from junkyard parts.

This^^^!! I just sold a set to my buddy Sparky, who is in a similar pickle.

Chev flat top knuckles from a '10 bolt' (IIRC)

Originally, the Chev axle is a 6 lug, but using these knuckles, and F150 hubs/spindles/rotors get you a high steer D44 5 on 5 1/2 lug.

I believe the ScoutII outers work also.

Now, Scout II knuckles/steering arms look like this:

    Pass side:

    Driver side:

And if you have a Scout D44, there's a good chance you will need to cut the 'inner C's' off, rotate slightly (5*?) in order to have proper caster for a Jeep. If it's an 'off road only' rig, this isn't really necassary, but for nice road manners, it is.

i prefer to run 7* to 10* of caster the scout axle was set up with 0* of caster and a shitty pinion angle if i remember right

Thanks Gearhead. I couldn't recall what I had researched on it. But since I'm retiring the CJ to 'Dairy Queen' and show&shine duty, I decided not to mess with putting the Scout II D44 under it.
