JK UNL G2 D44 Axle needs driveshaft mod ??

I am currently looking at the G2 Front D44 w/ ARB and 4.88's

all the web sites for sales say may need drive shaft modifications

I am currently running 6" lift with tom woods d-shafts (CV Shafts) do they need modification for the G2 Axle ??

I can see two mods:

1) DS lenght, shorter or longer

and or

2) the u joint interface, 1310, 1330 or a combo such as found on the early TJ Rubicons.

I cannot answer your question as I do not know th specs of the G2 and of your Tom Woods. I am a bit shocked that G2 cannot tell you the specs and let you take it from there.

I just did a front Dynatrac D44 ProRock install on a JK Rubicon and it was no issue, its all fits per spec.

I would think that unless the G2 setup has a longer or shorter pinion then if your TW fit your OEM D44 you should not have an issue there. G2 surely knows what pinion u joint will fit or you can order up what you want. When I ordered the Dynatrac for my client I used the OEM spec as he did not want a custom DS.

Call G2 and get some G2.

thanks don, tom woods is 1310 it bolted right up to the stock d-30 thats in there now with 4.88's

i will try to get ahold of G2 (busy phones) if not i will try one of their dealers

Good. Generally speaking unless G2 or you have received a high pinion setup the DS length should not be an issue. Even then you MIGHT be able to adjust using the control arms enough to run it. Generally if I do HP setups I will extend the wheelbase at time of install. With a few tricks you can pick up a couple of inches f/r. Its not free, but the offset is the savings in not having to buy a new set of DS.

That said I have not worked with the JK enough to see if I can do same on it. Mostly because my clients have all been Unlimited rigs and no need to try and stretch the wb.

Its my GUESS that your DS/u joints will all fit up with no issues. But you are smart to ask.

Wll guys i didnt read the fine print to see that the G2 44 was for a TJ and the only make a D60 for my jeep for $4500, i think im just going to beaf up the D30 i have with sleves and knuckler gussets and chrome-molly 4340 axle shafts and throw an ox loxker in there iwth the existing 4.88s i have. thanks for your help though

IMO I think OX may be one of the best lockers out there, but they just FAIL the logistics test. One company down in Fl makes them and they have already gone out of business once already. Albeit a long time ago and they have done well since. Fact is they do not have a world wide footprint like ARB or Detroit for example. Break a part in Moab and it could be 4 mo later before you get a replacement. Won't happen you say, my wheeling buddy had it happen to him as stated. I told him do not do OX, no logistics tail. That is the old S-4 talking here, as a engineer I have no issue with them at all...

Savage, your right about OX, but as far as a Detroit i like my ful locker in the rear (Aussie Lunch box locker) but i would not want a full time up front. ARB is a nice air locker but you have to re-build them, eventually the seals for the air go bad in the locker and a few other little things, and that requires all there little special tools and the re-build kit is about $350 after the tools about another $300 so your almost looking at a new locker in it self. Have you guys had any luck good or bad with electronic lockers ?

Its what ever you like that works with your style of driving. I like my ARB's and in 7 years/70k miles never had any issues at all. As for the rebuild kit that is a kit for the entire locker, not just the O rings. You can replace the O ring individually.

I know several guys who run the OX and for them its a fine solution. They are what I call 'back yard' wheelers, meaning they never get out of the back yard of where they live. If you are like me and heading out to parts unknown across the SW then reliability is of key importance.
