    Default Wondering about a winch...

I know there is a few different brands out there... Which is good bang for the buck and how big of one should I get for a ZJ with Steel bumpers front and rear, 500 pound stereo system sitting over the rear axle, running a 245/75R16 Cooper Discoverer STT, with a 2" budget boost going on after next payday... Not that the lift makes a difference... I already have a custom spun alternator, so I got plenty of juice to handle the load...

500 LB stero...NOT sure why you need a winch, just turn up the volume and blast out.

9500lb winch, you choice, your money, your brand of winch.

HAHAHAHAHAHA..... First good laugh of the day... At one time my jeep was a complete mall crawler... All the way down, or up depending on how you look at it to the 20" wheels I used to own... And in fact the system could have the opposite effect... excess vibration causing settling on what ever surface I'm on... Kind like struggling in quick sand... Lol...

    I don't even know what a 100lbs stero looks like...so 500!?!?! Wow. LOL!
Given the style of jeep your working with your kinda stuck with a "horizontal style" of winch. Stay away from the el cheapos of possible and get a quality one like Warn makes. 9500 sounds about right depending on the type of wheeling you do and how the jeep is set up. Check CL also as good winches do show up from time to time and you can find some good deals.

What a 500 pound stereo system consists of:

    Kenwood head unit...
2 12" Audiobahn Immortal woffers, 1100 watts rms each...
    Audiobahn:
3-way components in the front... featuring powered crossovers
2-way components in the rear... featuring powered crossovers
    tweeters in the dash...
    3200 amp gel cell battery
    10 ferret capacitor...
    5 ferret capacitor...
30 band right and left eq...
rear batter isolator w/ on-board charger...
2 AudioBahn 2300 HCT amps... One for the subs, one for the mids and highs...

Amps are flush-mounted level with the top of the back seats with 3/4" laminated mdf board, over the top of the woofer box, which is roughly about 125 pounds alone, built from 1 1/4 mdf, mirrored on the inside with 1" Plexiglas face...

There is roughly 50 foot of zero gauge power wire running around... plus all the speaker wire for the components because the crossovers are located underneath the back seat...

The battery alone weights like 65 to 75 pounds...

In a nutshell, it's loud enough to piss of the negibhors from 1/2 mile away on a clear night, and for those in the cabin... Enough SPL to make your vision blur...

I'll get some pictures as soon as I can and put them up in a new thread titled "500 pound stereo system..."
