Default 2005 grand Cherokee shit the bed

4.7l v8. Cd player making a bunch of noise, interior lights work. Turn key, nothing. Hook to another car via jumper cables, rapid successive clicks.

I'm thinking battery or alternator. Thoughts? Aaa is on the way

Starter most likely, if you have a volt meter check battery voltage, voltage at the large term on starter key on engine off and while someone else attempts to crank it over. Should see 12-13.6 volts on bat and large term with key on engine off, and should not drop below 10 volts while cranking

If your lights come on, but are dim... it's not the starter.
    Either battery, alternator or both.
If you're battery is drained you'll hear rapid clicking... that's the starter trying to work.
If your alternator is dead, your battery probably died. I'd be willing to bet it's the battery though. Pull the battery and take it up to autozone and have them test it.
