Default Jeep Project! My 1987 Wrangler Laredo

I suppose I should make a legitimate build thread here:

I went for a test drive with the new dash today. In the course of operation noticed a few things:

    • [s]The throttle is messed up somehow. Once the jeep warms up, the throttle climbs like I'm accelerating. It may be an issue with the throttle valve setting on the carburetor or the spring that goes from the TV cable to the carb. I'll check it again in the morning.
    • My reverse is f***ed. It's always been a little weak but now when I go into reverse I get almost nothing and there's a hissing noise. I almost think it's an issue with a vacuum switch+ the automatic transmission.
    • The old interior lumination bulbs are still hanging from the electrical harness and bugged the crap out of me on the way home in the dark. I'll probably just clip them out of the harness and splice around them.
    • The speedometer cable - having not been secured by anything - fell out of the speedometer on the way home. I'll figure out a way to fasten it tomorrow. And before you ask: no, it wont screw on because the cable I got has the wrong connection on that side :smith:
    • The soft doors worked well. There was an issue with the seal on the top but after bending the windows it, it seemed to correct.[/s]
    • The heater controls are still not hooked up and it got a little cold on the way back. Probably something I should fix.
    • No new photos yet but I'll have some tomorrow. Here's something to hold you over.

engine still has an issue where it races constantly. I'll get an appointment to get that and the tranny checked out tomorrow.

I love a good yj build. You made a nice list of what is failing you at the moment. Have you an idea of the direction you are taking the old girl. What kind of terrain/wheeling are you building it for. Is it a mostly trail rig or dual purpose? Are you gonna lift ,widen or stretch? Sorry dont mean to poke at you just asking what your intentions are

Dual purpose I think: I'd like to have it trail worthy but also something I can drive to school on those summer days that it would be a crime to not have top/doors off. Once a resolve a couple issues, I'll be getting it lifted a couple inches + some decent tires put on.

Bringing Sandbagger to "Commercial Truck Care" over the weekend. The place comes recommended by my grandfather so I assume they do pretty good work.

Got my rear shock fixed and redid the stencil on Sandbagger.

I think this summer it'll be 30" tires and new wheels. Maybe I'll get enough money this winter to get the lift kit.

I snapped this right before shooting up some targets at the local shootery. New tires/bumper here.

    Update:

front and rear springs redone. I put a set of procomp 2.5" leafs and shocks on the front and back. Still need to work out the shock mounts on the rear D35 or figure out a rear end upgrade. Probably going to have to lower the t-case to fix the rear pinion angle.

painted the soft top with duplicolor sand fabric/vinyl paint. It looks pretty awesome, I think.

    What's left:

    • "Nutter Bypass" on the ignition system. Work with the carb to get it to run leaner. Maybe install an HEI type electronic distributor.
    • Fix the ammo can center console so that it locks.
    • Find a place to permanently mount my power inverter. Maybe inside the center console.
    • The fuel gauge is still wonky. Probably have to pull the tank and see if the float is stuck.
    • New rear bumper/tire carrier. (someday...*sigh*)
    • Wheels and tires. - I think I want to get a set of 16" steelies and some 31" treadwrights.
    • The wiper system broke AGAIN. still working on a permanent fix.
