Axle matching

I have been doing some research and I think I am going to go with a Ford 8.8 with ARB for the rear from ECGS, but I am trying to go with something to match in the front. My initial thought has been to go with a D44. Thoughts? I am going to be throwing on 35s and it will still be my DD. Thanks for the input!

Keep the D30 if you're going to leave it open in the front. I would suggest the D44 if it's going to be locked. Unless you are just talking about the rear, in which case it shouldn't be to hard to find with matching gears to the front. If you're planning on regearing, that doesn't really matter too much anyway. D44's can usually live a pretty long life with 35" tires, especially at both ends. I've wheeled the snot out of mine with 44's and the worst thing I've done is blow a tire off the bead. Just my .02.

Unless you want to put a chunk of coin into a 30, you might be better served to bite the bullet early and just go with the 44. They are stronger(stock to stock) and I have personal experience running a 44 with 37's without breakage. Alot of it will come down to how you drive, but I think the 44 would do you better.

My buddy Chad is doing that swap right now, already has an 8.8 in the rear, swapping out the D30 for a waggy D44.

He's going to run Hummer tires, not sure what size they are? 35? 37?

I think the original H1's ran a smaller tire than that, didn't they? Back in '86?

Before the switchover to radials, the biases we ran were 36".
