Thanks to everybody who voted for me and for tickwomp and cowboy63b.

During my first Iraq deployment from Nov '05 to Nov '06, I had planned to buy a new Chevy truck when I got home. In what little spare time I had, I used the MWR computers and built my truck exactly the way I wanted it using Chevy's website. I had already spent one Colorado winter in a 2WD Ford Ranger and that sucked. I was stoked because I've been a lifelong, diehard Chevy guy. About 2 weeks before redeployment, I had started considering buying a Wrangler. Literally, the first weekend after I got back and after a 4 day pass, I was driving down Motor City here in Colorado Springs, which is a road about a mile long of nothing but dealerships and spotted a little red Wrangler sitting in the back of a Lincoln/Mercury car lot. It was perfect: 1 year old, 16K miles, bone stock, red with gray top, 4.0L, and a manual transmission. I learned later that it even had a rear D44. The salesman told me that some old dude had bought it and then traded it in because it was "too bouncy". That happens a lot here in Colorado. People buy a Wrangler and find out that it's not the luxury status symbol that they thought it was and that it takes commitment and a sense of adventure to own a Jeep. So I traded in the POS Ranger in on it (I had paid $600 for it and got $1200 for the trade). This Jeep was my "coming home from Iraq safe" present to myself. Over the next 11 months I lifted it and put 31" MTs on it. On the 11th month, I deployed again for 15 months during The Surge. We had more personnel this time and I ended up having more spare time. That, combined with personal internet in our barracks, allowed me to plan more stuff to do to the Jeep and also find this website. I redeployed in Feb '09 and met up with a bunch of great Military Jeepers here in the Springs and eventually paid the thing off in 3 1/2 years on a 5 year note. The money from a 15 month deployment and also Stop-Loss pay allowed me to make more modifications. The best part of it all is that the wife and kids love the Jeep. Even my 20 month old daughter will point and say "Jeep" when I pick her up from daycare.

TL;DR Thanks for voting. My Jeep means a lot to me.

The first day I owned it.

Congartulations. Similar story about the too bouncy thing and first deployment gift and all. Lady back in Jersey traded mine in for an SUV although I am From NY, just thought I would add that. I found it at a ford dealership w/ 3k and the story is still evolving.
