    USAF Lift question

My husband got Jeep envy and picked up a 2dr Wrangler. When he talked to the dealer about getting a 4" short arm like the one I have on my 4dr Wrangler he was told that Mopar didnt offer a 4" short arm for the 2dr, only a 2" lift. Does that sound right? Is 2" enough or is there a better aftermarket 3" or 4" out there that he should go with instead? Price for the Mopar 2" is $1500. Appreciate any advice you can offer!

Mopar probably doesn't off the 4" for the 2 dr becuase of the rear driveshaft, you get a steeper angle on the 2 dr. The 4 dr has a longer rear shaft.

There are a lot of options for a 3-4" lift, probably some right around what Mopar wants for the 2"!

I'm not much up on the newer rigs, but there's some on here who are who can better answer the question.

Just a quick search found this: http://www.quadratec.com/products/16117_101X_B_PG.htm

3.5" SkyJacker lift with shocks, only $489 ! And they aren't hard to install if you have some basic tools and some wrenching knowledge.

I'm not advocating SkyJacker, I've never run thier stuff, just found this doing a quick Googly search

Check out Quadratec and 4WDH, they carry a lot of different brands.

4" for under 600 with shocks. Mopar parts from any dealership are gonna be spendy. The IRO kits are easy as hell to put on (especially if you have a hoist or hobby shop with a lift).

My 2 pence: After having a cheap lift on my first 4x4, an average lift on my second 4x4, and an expensive one on my latest, I've come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for (shocker!). I'm not saying a budget lift like TrailMaster is bad quality--just that it will have some limitaitions as to how much stress it can handle, how well it works in high speed corners, low speed rock bashing, etc. I would emphasize that you get something that you will certainly be happy for the life of the vehicle. It sucks to spend $1000, and then two years later decide you want bigger tires and more wheel travel. Finally, I would always opt for a long-arm kit because it generally works much better. I really like my Rubicon Express lift, and I think Teraflex and N-th degree make some great kits.

    Shell,
Let me pass on some advice I learned a good 40+ years ago: Cheap don't come good and good don't come cheap.

That said I have wheeled with guys that run the skyjack setup. I will neither pass judgetment nor will I say much more about it.

For a lot of folks they can not afford to spend mega bucks on their jeep and they need to buy for less money. There is NOTHING wrong with that. Any lift is better than no lift and ANY winch is a hellva lot better than no winch.

What I believe to the best winch, Warn, want the best in a lift, then its AEV hands down. Why? 1) Jeep suspensions by Jeep engineers, for jeeps. No shortcuts on quality or components.

    2)
AEV, "Nth Degree" JK 3.5-inch Suspension Systems:

    • Expedition-Ready / Daily-Driven Practical. More so than any of its predecessors, the JK Wrangler is not just a trail-mastering off-road specialist, it's a truly "streetable" on-road transport too. The AEV, "Nth Degree", System enhances the JK to raise its performance in both arenas to create a true American Expedition Vehicle.
    • Tuned Vehicle Dynamics. As with our TJ suspension systems, the JK has been thoroughly sorted for impeccable behavior in every situation you may put it in - and especially the ones you didn't intend to.
    • Complete. AEV, "Nth Degree", JK systems are truly stand-alone packages that include everything needed to elevate your JK properly, including shocks.
    • Options. AEV offers both Standard and Premium suspension systems for the Jeep JK. These systems are available in a 3.5-inch lift height and allow the JK to accommodate 35 X 12.50 tires. Visit the JK Suspension Tech Specs page for more information about what is included in each system.

    Cost: $1,274.00

The AEV suspension systems are the ONLY ones I recommend to be installed on any TJ/JK as a kit.

That's cheaper than the Mopar 2"! Granted, it has to be installed, but for a complete kit, that's a good deal.

There are ALOT of options out there for the JK's. The first question to any of our customers is, what are you looking to gain? Just want to run bigger tires? How big of a tire? What's the overall purpose of the vehicle? Trail rig? DD with some trail use? Street only?
