    Default Part Time???

Went out wheeling this morning and got into a little mud. Powered through fine and had a grand time. After the last mud hole (was not really heavy duty mudding, just a few shallow holes) I noticed a new light on my dash board. It said "Part Time" in the upper right corner of my instrument panel. I have had this Jeep for five years and done all sorts of wheeling with it and have NEVER seen this light up. Now it won't go off, even when I'm in 2HI. Anybody know what this light means?

My Jeep is a 2001 TJ with 2.5l engine and 5 speed tranny and NP 231 J t-case.

That is very odd to me. As I understand it the "part time" light only applies to the 24X series of tcases. I may be wrong in this but I wonder....
As a fix try giving it a good bath to remove all the mud. Then try backing up in a reverse "S'' shape in a parking lot to ensure your 4WD is not engaged. After that it may come down to a wire/hose that came loose due to a spalsh in the puddle. If that is the case you will be glad you started with the good bath!

Yep, my XJ w/242 T-case has a 'part time' light. The 242 has 2HI, 4HI Full Time, 4HI Part Time, "N" and 4LO

The 'Full Time' is basically that, the same as a rig that is a 'Full Time' FWD. With that, you can drive on hard surfaces without doing damage.

The 'Part Time' is similar to the 'Lock' on older Full Time rigs, and is what a 231 or 241 T-case is when in 4WD.

My light comes and goes, but I've never had it be on when in 2WD. In fact, my 'Full Time' light hasn't worked in over a year now.
