    Default Weird Noise

Hey guys i own a 97 TJ. When your driving the Jeep a noise is coming from the rear of the Jeep and it sounds like you are dragging a bunch of can strung together. Could i be having rear differential problems?

    Thanks in advance Brian

hard to say really without looking at it myself. but is your exhaust rubbing on something or falling apart? one good way to check it is put it on jacks, put in gear and have a buddy listen for a crunch or pop in the diff. or where ever it may come from. if nothing is making noise while on jacks, then i would be eyballing the exhaust

The exhaust is fine, it made a popping noise while leaving a stop sign and then started making the other noise of dragging cans. Anyone wanna back up my theory that it could be the wheel bearings?

no , not always. they will make alot of noise before they totally fall apart though. the pop could be the slop in the shaft and the can dragging sound could be the bearings being dry and basicaly crushing eachother.
