    Default Busted Skid plate bolt

    First a little back story:
Prior to my purchase of a SYE, I was merely driving down the highway just south of beautiful Montgomery Alabama on my way to the Eglin AFB area, when the inevitable happened. Transfer case, driveshaft and exhaust all split open like a tin can. Had the jeep towed to the nearest dealership, a Chevy place in Greenville. I had them replace the Transfer case and the driveshaft so that I could limp my tail back home a week later when my training was over. Well a couple weeks later, I had it in the shop installing the SYE while I was away for more training. Long story short, when I was pulling it out of the garage to use it as the good lord meant it to be used, I found one of the skid plate bolt heads sitting on the floor of the garage. I have always been impressed with the work of the guys at the shop but this kinda irritated me. Has this happened to anyone else with the heads shearing off due to over torque? how did you get the rest of the bolt out?

Thanks for reading through my hole sob story!

If there is enough of the bolt sticking out you can weld a nut onto it and remove it as normal. If not soak in good ol PB Blaster and use vice grips to back it out. You may need to heat it up if it is stuck good, I mean heat the hell out of it. Just be careful of other things around it, brake, fuel lines and what not.

The way it sheared off, the bolt doesn't extend below the frame anymore so there is not a whole lot to weld onto or grip. Think drilling it out would work?

I would probably try an easy out first. Hopefully it's not cross threaded, then drilling will probably be required.
