    Default Whatizzit??

I was looking under the hood today, trying to figure out a way to make an airbox to reduce my intake temp, when I saw an open vacuum nipple

I don't see anything laying/hanging loose, that may go to it.
Anyone know what is supposed to go there?

I know it's not for the brake booster, or the lines to the HVAC controls, as those are there and hooked up.

do you still have a charcoal canister in there? could it be a source for an older emission system? I'm not too hip on the 4.0's

The cruise is still hooked up, and works OK. Could be a plug that dryrotted off/got knocked off.

I don't think the newer 4.0L HO have a charcoal cannister, not sure though.

Things like this really make me love my CJ!!

    Spark? Check!
    Fuel? Check!

Got the pliers, duct tape and wire? "Check, check, and check!"

    OK, lets roll!!

I did find a plug for it, so we'll see how it runs now.

Set the timing by ear, and lets roll!!

The good news is that the nipple looks like it hasn't been exposed to the elements for a long time. There isn't any residue anywhere around it, and it has the appearance that it was covered until recently. Surely there is a hose somewhere that is in need of a nipple. You've been all through your Jeep too many times for you to have missed something like that. Just out of curiousity, have you done the Nutter Bypass?

    Yep, did that.....on my CJ7!

This is on my '99 XJ.

You're right, whatever was on there, hasn't been gone to long. I looked high and low for a hose, or even another opening incase the entire hose is gone, but can't find anything.

I think I have some underhood shots of that area, have to dig through my pics and see if anything is visible.

I did do a tune up, plugs/cap/rotor, but haven't done anything on that side for a while.

I think it's for your HVAC system. A vacuum hose with a check valve is supposed to be plugged in there to allow you to change modes on your vents. It probably popped off (mine did the same thing about 2 weeks ago) and fell behind the engine and is still hanging there.

Probably a plug. Did you jeep sneez or backfired true the intake lately?
    That forces the plugs out.

So it isn't a nipple for Patriots and Compasses to nurse from in the hopes that one day they may grow up to be real Jeeps?
