The Crossing of America will begin on May 27, 2011 just prior to Memorial Day Weekend, aboard the deck of the USS Midway in San Diego Harbor, and concludes on Thursday, September 8, 2011, on the deck of the USS Intrepid in New York Harbor. The closing ceremony of The Crossing of America will mark the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. The Crossing of America tour will travel over 12,700 miles through 43 states and the District of Columbia during its 105-day trip.

The Crossing of America, will capture the imagination of millions of Americans, and along the route, the Spirit of Liberty Jeeps will be the most celebrity-driven vehicles ever, having been driven by high-profile Celebrities, Sports Figures, Government Officials, Veterans, POWs, Medal of Honor recipients, and Family Members of Fallen Heroes.

The Crossing of America supports two established foundations that support members of the Armed Forces and their families. TAPS – the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors – and the Spirit of Liberty Foundation. Both of these foundations have a focus on supporting Wounded Warriors and Families of Fallen Heroes.

Just got off the phone with them. They are sending me additional info. He mentioned trying to get some military folks to drive their jeeps with them along parts of their route. He also said that the wrap they used on the jeep is available and there is a military discount. I guess it is being offered to dealers to have them add it to white or silver jeeps, but he said you can get it through the organizations site and go to a certified installer and have it put on.

From what I understood, they are raising money for two military-oriented charities. Sadly, people may not flock to see the jeeps if they are driven by "joes", but they may if they are driven by the high profile celebrities.

That's a good point. For me, and I'm betting most GI's, I'd rather see, meet and BS with the 'joes' and families, but, to raise money, what's better than celebs, jocks, and liars....uh, I mean, politicians!

Good to see that people still believe in America.
