Default So, I installed my sport cage today... sort of

What a pain in the butt. That sport cage is not an easy thing to install, luckily a fellow jeeper just happened to be down there and gave me a hand. Once I had an extra set of hands working on the cage, I realized that I should not have even started without help.

I did not follow the directions as written. They wanted me to remove a lot of stuff that I did not need to. They said remove all the padding from the rollbars, but I only removed what I needed to do install the bars.

Te rear bar went in ok but I had to tie a ratcheting tow strap around it and then to the lift in the bay next to me to pull one of the factory roll bars out a little so that I could pop the rear piece in there. The directions said that jeep builds the rollcages with a one inch tolerance or something like that and mentioned that you may have to pull the rolbars together or pull them apart to get the bars to fit.

the "T" in the front went on ok and the cross bars in the back went on ok also.

Tearing out the dash to put the floor mounts in sucked. It really seemed like we were not going to be able to get the mounts to work, but we did.

The bar that goes across the dash has the bolts in a position that make them very tough to get to. We worked for a while trying to tighten them up the best we can.

Tomorrow I have to drill into the frame and install the frame tie in, then piece the jeep back together and I am done.

I still have agas tank skid plate, but want to wait until a shop night with Beltway before attempting that since I know some others there that have done it before.

I wilpost photos tomorrow, but it took me a lot longer than I had thought it was going to take.

so, thanks to MuddyLuxury (who is not on here yet, but should be soon) for helping out on my jeep and not doing his which he had originally been there to do.

So, I will be down there tomorrow to finish up and thenI think again on Wednesday. There is a guy that works down there (greg) that has a jeep and some parts he needs to install to get it working again. He has been really good to jeepers that go in there quite often. It's on there. Finally. One of the frame mounts wasted a lot of my time today because the bolt did not match up, but chris pushed it into place and it worked.

I did not realize that the body moved so much until I could hear creaking from the mounts on the left and right as I drove home. Hopefully the bushings will wear in soon.

I will post some photos tomorrow. they will be of the cage with the top up, because I refuse to take that top down again until it is warmer. When I put it down, it was cold and wet. when I went to put it up it barely fit.

I posted some photos, but they are not the greatest. I was not really in a picture taking mood. The few I uploaded are in the photo gallery.

    Here is one.

thanks. my jeep hit puberty around October. Since then it has been growing like crazy. My gut feeling and my credit card says it should stop growing soon.

My wife tells me the Jeep is worse than the motorcycle. I keep buying items. A little bit here, little bit there. There's so much out there, and so little money, HA

Looking at your pictures, and noticed the CB antenna bracket. Is that the bracket that mounts behind the tail light? I have that type of bracket, just haven't mounted antenna or Cb as of yet. Also, how did you run the antenna cable to the inside? Did you run it behind the bracket somehow, or actually drill a hole in bottom of tail light and run cable through. Can't tell in picture. Just wondering...

I ran the cable through the same hole that the brake light wires go through. I just ran it back into the tub of the jeep and it entered right behind that brake light.
