I bought my 1st Wrangler from the stealership in 1989. List price then, for the 2.5L/4cyl was $8995!!!! Mine was $10,300 out the door. I sold it (only cuz I got orders OCONUS) in 1998, with 53,000 miles on it, for $6,000. Thats 40% depreciation in NINE years- your average car drops 50% the first year (roughly)... My daily driver is a 2002 BMW 530i, also has stupendous resale value. Cars are never investments (unless its a 1924 Bugatti...) so Jeep re-sale is yet ANOTHER indicator that we are a breed above- uncommonly wise, carefree and wild sprited. As if we needed to be reminded of that! Only in a Jeep baby!

That Bimmer 5 series goes for about $9-12k at auction which is about a 1/4 of it's original price.

A 2002 Wrangler Sport was $15k brand new and goes for up to 11k at auction...

unheard of resale value. My '04 Dodge SRT4 was 20k new and sold it 4 years after buying it with over 70k miles for 10k. 50% isn't bad for a dodge.. especially a neon. Most cars though won't have that luxury. The YJ I have has probably lost a bit of value due to my custom paint job, and the fact that it's got a bit of rust damage, but I don't really plan on selling it either
