    Question CJ Axle Upgrades

Thoughts and opinions on upgrading from a Dana 30 front axle, what's the best axle to go with as far as ease of install, strength, price and all that jazz. I blowed up the left front hub this morning and might as well look at going with something to match durability of the Currie 9in in the rear. So throw out what ever you think.

My bad, took it as given all CJ's are pass drop and it's a wide track axle. i do have a buddy here who has a full width Dana 44 out of an early 70's Chev, but don't really want to deal with narrowing it to CJ size. Would also need to be 5x5.5 bolt pattern.

You can go with waganeer front axle its only a little wider than stock wide track axles and that can be made up by wheel back spaceing

That's what I'm coming up with from what I can find the waggy 44 is 58 wide and a WT 30 is 56 and IIRC my Currie 9 is 57 wide so wouldn't be enough difference to worry about

Ya just don't know what upgrades may have been done unless ya ask.

Have you considered a D44 from a J10/20 Jeep truck or FSJ Cherokee?

What year wide trac? Was it a 5 bolt lock out hub?

Easy upgrade is to swap in the earlier 6 bolt lock outs from an '79-81 CJ D30. Much stronger than the cheesy 5 bolt ones.

But, if you can get something with internal lock outs, it would be better yet.

It's the one out of the 85 CJ7, not sure if it's an 85 but it does have the 6 bolt Warn lock outs. Not sure where the problem started but the bearings, spindle nuts and the lock out are toast, repacking them have been on my to-do list, but obviously didn't get to it soon enough.
