Default Which T-Case can I put in?

1997 Wrangler Sport (TJ) NP 321J in it right now. My front driveshaft slipped off due to putting more lift on it than it could take and snapped my T case in two. What case can I put on there for an upgrade? Atlas has a 6 week wait time, so that's out. What else?

How much do you want to spend? Do you have a SYE installed on the rear?

Wouldn't one of the new 241OR or whatever the new Rubicon's have int hem fit? Good upgrade, 4:1, getting more common, cheaper than an Atlas.

I think they bolt in, but they are clocked pretty flat in the Rubi's, at least the two I've worked on.

Might need either a BL or some BFH persuasion on the floor pan to fit.

But I believe the bolt pattern and input splines are the same.

The 231 is a decent T-case, replace it and get the proper length drive shaft.

hit pirate, nagca, naxja, mallcrawlin, and the other jeep sites. Or your local junkyard. Get a rebuild kit for a few bucks and put a nice fresh one in there.

What motor/tranny are you running? If you have a 4cyl/5 spd (AX-5) then you need one with a 21 spline input shaft. If you have a an auto or 6cyl/5 spd (AX-15), then you need one with a 23 spline input shaft.

231: Nothing wrong with the 231, good case, CHEAP, but the 4 Lo is the weak link, strong enough, but lacks the real grunt most are seeking. $

Atlas/StaK: Good as it gets, tons of options, brutal strength have one major flaw: $$$$$$$$$$

241OR: 4.1 Low, strong as an ox and will handle most anything your rig and a set of 37's can torque to it, will handle far more than the 6 has to give, built in SYE, $1500 or less will buy one in top shape most anywhere, making it fit is EZ, I know of no clearance issues in a TJ, as stated watch your spline count and bolt it up. $$$

Jeep is a keeper for the foreseeable future, you know you need SYE, spend the ducats and go 241OR. Not sure of the future, you have lived with the 231 and life was OK, stay with it and add the SYE.
