I'd stay with the 16's, or even 17's. That seems to be the way the industry is going. I have 15's on my CJ7 and I can't get the tires I want!
I was wondering if a 06 rubicon can run 15 inch rims....it came stock with 16 inch moabs.......will 15's clear the brakes(4 wheel disk)
If it can't be fixed with 100 MPH tape, 550 cord, zip strips, and a hammer it can't be fixed

you sure can, atleast I think, I have the same D44 rear axle on my unlimited and run 15's, though I always liked the look of the stock rubi rims with larger tires
so i will probably need wheel spacers?

Sorry, this comment doesn't seem right. There are so many options of tires for 15" wheels vs 16" or even 17" wheels.
Since 15" wheels are more common, there more choices of tires and a lot cheaper then the ones for 16" or 17" wheels.
Unless, things have just changed recently.
15's will bolt up just fine, with no spacers or adapters needed.
