Default 15''ers on a JK! vwJarheads new wheel project.

Well, I pulled the trigger on 5 Mickey Thompson Classic Locks. Originally I had planned to get some Rubi take off rims in 17'' and get the BFG M/T's from Tirerack for 94.00 each. Then I came across these and ended up spending much more when all is said and done; but I am strangely comfortable with that. Got em used and they are a bit beat as far as the finish goes. Salt erosion and oxidation mostly. What I am trying to do is bring back the shine the best as I can and have the Lock Rings painted Rescue Green to match the Jeep. YES I KNOW ITS NOT TACTICAL!!!!! But it is going to look bad ass when my pretty wheels are full of mud and bouncing on rocks(which is exactly what I plan to do to them). As far as fit I got some Spidertrax adapters to change the bolt pattern to 5x4.5 and I get almost 3'' of wheel base as a bonus. Did a preliminary mock up with spacer and wheel and they clear the calipers fine. As a matter of fact with the backspacing I 'm going to get another 3'' of width.(about 6'' total) Also adding a 2.5'' Teraflex BB and extended Teraflex VSS shocks in addition to swapping my Sahara steps for Rock Rails. I'll post pics when completed but here are the wheels.......Thanks for letting me ramble.

If they don't clean up to my liking that is exactly what I am going to do.
As far as rubber goes.....Firestone Destination M/T's, BFG M/T KM's, or wait till Sept. and get the new BFG KM2's. Basically I have no freakin idea! I just know I want a 33x12.5 and a strong sidewalled Mudder.

    Need your opinions.
SHOULD I PAINT THE LOCKING RINGS RESCUE GREEN TO MATCH MY RIG OR LEAVE THEM BARE?

I think if you paint them, you may feel that it was wasted time and money after they get scratched up from wheelin... The money spent on the paint job could be put to use on another mod...

Or paint them with a bed liner of some sort... that way you can very easily touch them up when they get rock rashed....

    Leave them bare IMO.

Austere Mobility in a '99 TJ Sport with a few bells and whistles

The bravest of all Spartans was Dienekes. It is said that on the eve of battle, he was told by a native of Trachis that “the Persian archers were so numerous that, when they fire their volleys, the mass of arrows will block out the sun.”

Dienekes, however, quite undaunted by this prospect, remarked with a laugh, “Good. Then we’ll fight in the shade!”
