WOW someone doing it right. Most want to lift than learn (guilty).

Ok first thing go here http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/ and request a build sheet.
You will need the last 8 digits of your Jeep. It will give you all the stock information for your Jeep. Important things like what axles / gearing it came with. I got mine in an email within 2 days of requesting it for PYJ.

The only one I know really well as far as Vacuum hoses go, is the 4wd one for the front axle. For most early XJ's and YJ's the front is a Dana 30 with the Vacuum Shifter. Looks like this:

Without vacuum you don't have 4WD. Also the shift fork in that can wear over time and need replaced (under $20 shipped), takes under 30 minutes if ya got nimble fingers. Fat fingers 50minutes and 2 beers.

If you dont figure it out bring it by my place (PM me), probably a cracked line or one come off. vac leaks are easy sometimes-then sometimes not.

C'mon. If you're gonna do it right the first time.... how will you ever learn what NOT to do?

Run to the nearest Advance auto/autozone/pepboys and grab the Haynes or Chiltons manual for your year/model Jeep. It will have all of the vacuum diagrams and is a great tool to diagnose whats going wrong.
