Default rear Dana 60?Rear 8.8? front Dana 44

Ok a guy near here has these for sale D60 $200, D44 Front $150 and a 8.8 $150 the rears are drum.

    What are your suggestions?

They would need brackets installed & re-geared

Or near $2100 INSTALLED with Base options, you can see the cost of upgrades. I can get a brand new D44 geared and locked with warranty from local shop 4WS.

Buy the 8.8 and front D44. Go sign up for the welding class at Waynesville Tech Academy. Buy a mig welder. Learn to weld and do it in your garage. Or take the brackets, axles, and Jeep over there for the class and see if they will let you fit and weld the brackets on using their equipment and supplies for your class project. I plan on doing this for some bumpers. You could even fab up some trusses in the class too.

Build it yourself. You learn a WHOLE lot more doing it yourself.

If you decide to go with the 8.8 then I would look for one with disc brakes. The drum versions suck and are only 28(?) spline where the disc version is 31 spline.

You can take your time building it while it's not under the Jeep and have a very hefty Jeep. Run a Superior 88 kit in it and it's damn strong. Setting up the brackets is not hard you just need to take your time. MP101v did his and he is not the smartest tool in the shed

D60 D44 combo. I will be building a set soon and installing them into my CJ-7. It will be running 35's but no larger than 37's. I don't feel there will be a issue with clearence. I'm setting the rear 60 with a detroit and the front 44 with a selectable. I can do both and still not spend 2200.00

Sweet! Congrats Larry. I will be building up my "spares" in the near future, which are an identical starting point...I am sure we'll be able to share some info.

Well when I get my XJ I will go the 9"/D44 route or the 8.8/D30 option. Likely the D30 because I can add Chromo shafts, a truss, and a little beef and be fine since nothing over 33's are in my future
