    Default 4 to a 6

    How difficult would it be to drop a 6cyl into a 97 Wrangler that's currently a 4cyl?

I'm not the most educated on this, but I would expect the following:
    1) The motor mounts would probably be close to matching up, but even if they don't, new motor mounts can be welded on or existing ones moved. You'll have quite a few engine options anyway so finding one that matches should be too difficult
    2) I think the trans is going to be the largest issue. From what I've read, most of the trans that came with the 4 cyl's can't handle the torque created by the 6 cyl's, but I'm sure someone will have more accurate info.

Start here with Novak's conversion site and I'm sure you'll find some very useful info.

You'll probably save yourself some time/money by just selling the 4cyl and buying one with a 6.

I agree with Jeffb on this one. You would save money by selling your current Jeep and buying one with a 6. It would be more cost effective to upgrade to a V8, transmission, transfer case, then it would to switch to the 6.

    Thanks CrazyHorse.
Jeffb and Itchee- Can't do it. She's my baby. I've had her going on 10 years now. It would be like giving up one of my sons.

I vote V8. There are plenty of write-ups for doing a 350 into her.

Honestly cost wise going 4 to 6 is about the same as 4 to 8.
Kind of like doing gears. Might as well throw a locker in there at the same time since you have it all pulled out.

I did this exact swap in 07. I had a 99 TJ that I put a 6cyl out of a chrokee into. I am here to tell you that you are better off doing the V8 swap. I am doing a V8 swap now, and it is damn near the swap stuff. On the 4 to 6 you need to change the motor mounts, engine harness, computer, radiator, steering block, trans, tcase, and a few other things, so its the same as doing a V8. If you go with a newer 5.3 that can be had cheap, they are actually lighter than the 6cyl.

I would do a Vortec V-8 of some sort if your that attached to the Jeep. If you are going the 4.0L route buy a totalled TJ and used everything form it in your conversion. I bought a 4 bannger rolling chassis from a guy that did that. He went form a 2.5L 5 spd to a 4.0L auto (so the wife could drive it)

You could 1 up that and use a rubicon chassis, get all the goodies at once
