    Default Cheap Overhead CB mount rack

    If you are planning to install a CB in your Jeep, you know there is not a lot of space available unless you use your overhead area or jam it somewhere on the dash (under/above). I was checking the prices to buy one and the options were pretty expensive. So I went to Home Depot and bought 2 Rubbermaid Garage tool track and added diamond back steel plate (it was a mud flap that I never used for a pick-up truck) all for around $25 bucks and a little work. To hold it all down to the cage I used hook and loop straps. It looks cool and gives me plenty of clearance. See the pictures attached.

    I use the retractable name badge thingys on my mike. One end on the mike, the other to the cb. That way when i drop it it slides back in place or I dont have to drape the mike.

    Is it going to be strong enough not to flex or break loose in an accident or a rollover?

    I used three pieces of tubing, 4 fabrication collars (from Rockhard 4x4), a sheet of 20 gauge from the local hardware store, and welded one up. The whole thing was pretty easy and completely removeable (unbolts in 5 minutes).
    BTW: The overhead light came out of a junkyard Ford Explorer.

    The rack is sturdy enough and has very little flex, but I don't think it can survive a roll over with the top off. Chet's setup is more rigid for the looks of it.

    What happens when you take the hard top off? Looks like its attached to the roof and not the roll bars, but i could have missed it.

    I actually just got done installing mine in my jeep. I will take photos and attach to this thread. I attached it to the center console just next to my right leg. Its a small one that takes up zero space.

    The rack is attached to the rollbar very tight. I used black velcro straps to blend with the black rollbar.

    No problem, the rack can be made with other material anyway to meet everyones needs. Have fun building yours. :}
