Every post I have read, and there are many especially on JF say this is the way to go. I am hoping to do mine this year sometime. Just as soon as I can get the money out of my CFO.

Yep, that's the best carb for the job. I have the same motor and will be putting one on soon.

The Mopar MPI kit, best 258 carb in the world lol. There was a guy on 4wd that had a new one for sale turned out he bought it with out the wifes permission lol and she wasn't happy. So he had it for sale cheap. Also you might cinsider a TBI swap from a 4.3L chevy. If you must do a carb, I had decent luck with Webber. I would consider a 4.0L swap too. One of our club members did that to his 90 YJ and has never looked back, more power and reliability.

    my $.02:

Bessie had a '79single bbl when I got her, and I replaced it w/Webber 2bbl after a few trips. Worked ok, but had probs w/electric choke. Issues were mainly due to being at sea-level most of the time, then going to The Creek (Rausch that is) which is avg 1100 asl.

Instead of going manual choke on the webber, I'm going Holley 390 4bbl 'cuz i'm doing the 6=8 Cliffford swap.

As HighlanderCj-7 put in, the Best is either MPI or TBI. If going for carb and no engine mods, the MC2100 with 1.08 venturi works well. I haven't had any problems.....so far. I've been up some interesting hills/mountains and it keeps the fuel going.
If time and money aren't to much of a problem, the 4.0l head swap with MPI would be the trick, right next to the Clifford 6=8 (<---still waiting on pics - Renegade).
