More than likely the rear will be a Dana 35, unless the 30" tire package was bought then it would be a Dana 44.

As for gears, manual trans are 3.07 and auto is 3.73. I think but can't say 100%.

Looks like it was in a small accident recently. The front fender, hood, bumper, and looks like tub got bent up a little (right behind the driver fender). I bet with it being a 99 that insurance probably totaled it when the claim was made and that is how it ended up at an insurance auction. Call them and ask. I don't think its a bad price if that is the only reason it has a salvage title.

I had a '91 S-10 that was rear ended from the side in 2001. The cost of replacing and painting the bed side on it was enough for insurance to total it. I was pissed, but used it as an excuse to get a new vehicle.

I was thinking the same thing and a new fender is pretty cheap, rattle can it and be done. (or beat it out straight with a ball pien hammer and a block of wood )

but, then i went to looking at getting a tag for it and it dont look like you can tag a salvage title without jumping thru all kinds of hoops and red tape.

I would find out the process. It may be nothing more than getting an inspection by Highway Patrol prior to registration. I would first find out if that is the reason for the salvage title. If it has been wrecked twice, you could probably get it cheaper as long as you let them know you know about it when you make an offer.

If the frame isn't bent or the steering components aren't damaged, what the hell? You are just going to dent it up on the trail anyway. You are going to wheel it, right?!?

I bought a motorcycle on a salvage title and got it registered with no problem; I was even living in CA at the time. The only extra step I had to take was to bring the bike to a CHP station so they could verify the VIN. That took all of 10 minutes.

Yes you have to get a State Patrol inspection, showing that the damage shown by the insurance company has been replaced or "properly" repaired. Then file for a salvaged title. I think and I am not 100% positive the process cost around $150-$200, call the MO Highway Patrol.
