    Default oil LEAK oh nooooo....

I was pulling into the garage and seen some spots on the floor. Thinking it was only some water from the light rain we had the other day. That had dripped off the jeep i thought nothing of it then i saw the same spots again when i left this morning and i new it was oil. So i looked up under the TJ and sure enough the leak is coming from the rear main seal (right between the oil pan and gear box). So i called the stealership cause its still covered under the warranty. They said to bring it in on Thurs and they will fix it for me for free as long as there is no sign of misuse or anything like that which there isn't. Now this oil leak really akes me think the jeep is a 2006 TJ with only 13,250miles on it hummmm seems really early in its life to be getting leaks like this but i looked up this "oil leak" and it seems to be a some what frequent problem with the 4.0l. Oh well i guess ill get her fixed up and move on. Just thought i would share this with all of you.

That sucks. Glad to hear it will be covered under warranty. Once you start ading stuff to the jeep, the dealer may not be so quick to cover it under warranty. Just a heads up.

I have the same engine and lucky I have enough mud under mine to keep any leaks from dripping.

Mine is leaking also, so I just park on the curb in front of my neighbors house...

Jeeps are like helicopters leaking hydraulic fluid...if it's not leaking, get off...that means it's dry!

The 4.0 and the 4.2 are great at blowing the rear main seal.

And if the dealer gives you any lip about where you've been driving it, point to the side and say "It's trail Rated, does it matter where I drive it?"

What about the PCV? Ya know, plugs up and too much internal pressure builds up and ping, there goes the rear main. It would seem the rear main is the weakest of all the seals on those 6 cylinders. What condition is you'res in? You should be able to hear the bebe rattle around while shaking it. When I bought my '79 with the 304, it leaked like a sieve, changed the PCV and put a vent cap on the oil filler, they all dried up.

    Just a thought.

I've got an 04 with the 4.0 Dealership had to replace the rear main at 10,000 miles on it. Got right at 50,000 on it now and it's still good to go.

There isnt any check valve in the pcv resrictor, its the rear little fitting in the valve cover. It dose get pluged from time to time. Ive taken and drilled the tiny hole it them out to 3/8's. It will relive pressure in the engine. The rear main seals are prone to leaks no matter what. Its usually the rtv that people use to seal the two pice seals together, use very little on it to prolong the life of the seal. To much and it leak!!
