Default Opportunity to pick up a 85 Blazer

    All,
I've currently got a stock 79 CJ7 with the 258. I've already got a mc2100 on it that I'm not happy with so I'm looking for other options, including engine swaps. I had the head rebuilt on the 258 about a year ago and although the engine is stable, I might be able to get this blazer for free. I believe it has the small block chevy which I know is a popular conversion, as well as the heater core I believe.
Assuming all parts coming from the Blazer are good, would this be a vehicle worth putting effort into going and getting?

Would the axles be something to look at swapping? It is a 4x4 with an auto trans (which I really don't want).
    Thanks for the feedback.

You have a 258 now right?
Don't you need to upgrade the trans or something as well for the V8 Conversion???? I know someone on here has mentioned it before.

Sorry, I left out an important detail - its the chevy small block "V6", not the 8. But yes, I do have the 258 right now.

I had a 258 in my CJ and swaped in an AMC 304. I'm still running the T176 4 speed that came behind the 258 with no problems. I don't know the output of the Chevy V6 but I would guess it would hold up.

I beleive the 304 was still an option in '79 with a choice of either a manual 3 speed or automatic.

Thanks for the link Erik - I was hunting around all over that site before I even thought about the Chevy. Seems that the swap is pretty popular, but my dreams were surpressed a little when I found out the chevy wasn't fuel injected. The price can't be beat so I have nothing to lose except waster labor.

If you're getting a free engine maybe you could splurge on a TBI for it.
