Wildman I think has a 350 in his TJ.
i'm curious as to advantages aside from the obvious power and disadvantages aside from decreased gas mileage. i'm thinking about doing a 700R4 swap at the same time. what kind of troubles am i looking at here? anyone ever done this? suggestions, pros, cons? thanks for your help.
Wildman I think has a 350 in his TJ.
The people I have known to put a late model small block in their rigs had an INCREASE in mileage, not a decrease. The small block doesn't have to work as hard to roll an aerodynamic brick as the 6 does.

I would think the downside would be you would have to replace your entire drivetrain to go with the new engine. Don't know how long stock axles would hold to the new power.
6.0L SBC here and milage went up almost double over the I6

A SBC weighs in at about the same as the I6. It is also inherently a slightly more fuel efficient engine than an inline engine will ever be. Add that to the fact that it doesn't have to work as hard and you have a pretty fuel efficient vehicle. I do not know why Jeep didn't drop in a V8 in the TJ from the bigginning.
thanks for all of y'all's replies. thats interesting about the mileage but i guess it makes sense. i am planning on replacing my tranny at the same time anyway and eventually putting a 44 in the rear. would i have to swap transfer cases too?
Advance Adapters makes an adapter that will mate your tcase to the 700r4

Why use a 350??? Already have one? Junkyards are full of 5.3/auto combo's that will probably bolt to your t-case. More hp, better mpgs, better injection. Either way, have fun, and that d35 is going to HATE you!!!
