after checking out the hammers photos, it got me wondering, how much would a buggy cost if you were to buy one like shown in the photos?

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. J/K

I would think it depends on what sponsors you have.

It figures I was at a guys house today who competes in the RCRocs and Werocs. One of his buddies also has been a part of the Extreme Off-road Racing circuit. I think both have run KOH also.

A couple of years ago, there was one for sale at the SEMA show. Asking price was $120,000. If you could do all the work yourself, I am sure that it would come in under that amount but either way, it is going to be a lot of coin.

Dude, there's a wiiiiiiiiide variety of costs. It all depends on how/what you build. If you build it with brand new everything and top shelf equipment, then sure it'll cost you a shit ton. If you build with a resto'd heart and drivetrain, I'm sure you could build it for a lot cheaper than people sell it for. It's all about who you know.

There was an ad in a jeep magazine where a company sold buggy cages for around 3500 dollars. Start there and build as you go. I'm guessing the hardest part would be hooking up with a welder that would be able to help. If you could zero in on that, then you're home free in my opinion. If I was stabilized for more than three years with a garage, I'd start building one

    Huge variety in cost.
Can you weld, bend pipe, fabricate? If you can do all the above, that's going to be your biggest cost. Can you rebuild axles, or do you plan on buying something like dynatracs? Dynatrac 60's front and rear will cost you over $10k alone.
What kind of engine are you planning on running... stock or engine swap?
Honestly, if you can't build it yourself, your best bet is to check out the classifieds on a board like pirate. You could probably find something decent for under $20k.
If you have plenty of time to bargain shop and can fabricate you could build something halfway decent in the $20k range. If you're having a shop do it, expect to triple the price.

A buddy of mine in Little Rock built his own for around $12K, but he bent and welded the frame, picked up engine, transmission, axles, etc. as he was going along, took over a year to build and the biggest expense was the wheels and tire which he bought new vs. rebuilding older stuff. A friend of his bough his, used for like $16K but it was not as capable.
