Default Thought I'd share this trick

Read it over on the JF - http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=645130

Does this really work? Anyone tested it?

"carry a bar of plain white, unscented ivory soap on the trail.

puncture your gas tank? grab the soap and rub it on the hole hard anough to shave the soap into the hole. it will fill the hole, harden, and outlive the jeep."

It will fill the hole and stop the leak. Harden and outlive the Jeep? I don't think so. But it will get you home till you can repair it.

Is there something about the soap and fuel mixture that makes it harden?

Don't u run the risk of a gas and soap mixture in the fuel then and potentially need to flush your entire fuel system or is it so small it don't matter?

Yes there is a limit to the size hole it will patch.

Way back when.... I used to live down a long rough gravel road and was foolish enough to drive it way to fast. Had to use this trick a couple of times and as I remember it worked fine until the first good rain.

yes u are only suppose to use the soap to patch small holes in which case the soap in the fuel will not make a diff.
