    Default Fuel Injectors

Okay. So here's the deal. Never did anything like this before so bare with me. I believe one of my fuel injectors is leaking. reason being is the brown stains around the fuel injector and on top of the engine manifold, as well as the smell of fuel whenever I shut down the engine. So here is my questions, should I just replace the o-rings, or should I just go ahead and replace the injectors as well? the jeep is a 1993 I6 XJ. These injectors are probably original, and the engine has 157,000 miles on it.
This is a picture of the fuel injector and said stain.

Yes you probably have a fuel leak, those injectors are 3 pieces pressed together and have a tendency to leak. Petersen's Off Road or JP Magazine just covered this recently. I can't remember which magazine it was, however when they replaced them they used some better injectors intended for a Ford and with no problems I will try to find the article for you. I wouldn't even drive it till you get that fixed. All it takes is a little fire and then you are in it for a wiring harness andsome other Shiza or worse a whole new rig.

Ok found it, November 09 issue of JP magazine page 66 Fireproof 4.0L.

The injectors they used were from an 03' Ford truck or SUV with a 5.4L V-8. Ford PN: 4L3Z9F593CA

you are looking at 300 bones for a whole set but it is worth not burning to the groundor use Bosch PN: 02801580444

Hope this helps and the pic in the magazine shows that the new injector has 4 holes instead of one so fuel atomization would probably be better.

Bigsky, I actually have that issue at home. (i really should just get a subscription..) The issue they are talking about though Was from pre 91's i believe. For the 91+ production line they switched to a better design.
But I have heard abuot the ford injector swap. Using the 19ps injectors from the 5.0. good as factory but cheaper. So looks like Im gonna spend 300 some bucks and learn how to work on the fuel system. YAY!
I did some research on naxja as well, but thought id check here and get the military opinion, to make me feel better.

    Thanks guys!

Be sure you get the correct Ford injectors. The older (Renix maybe??) engines use 19# injectors, the newer engines (HO??) use 24# injectors. I found out the hard way.

not yet. have to wait for pay day to get the injectors. Most of my money this month went to the giant alcohol fueld party last saturday, the brand new mattress, the new washer and dryer, and the welder and cb radio my wife bought me. Im doing my part to keep the economy going!
