Well I got a spare hood for free so I figured what the hell, I am gonna make my own cowl hood. I figure it should be great for that slow wheeling to keep the under hood temps down. I just recently wired my aux. fan through a relay and switch as well. Here are some pics of what I have go done. Please excuse the welds, it is a $99 harbor freight special and to top all of that of it is plugged into a power inverter. I think I am going to grind it off and start over but I may just throw some more bird shit welds on there and go.

It's not purdy, but it's mine
suggestion on the weld because the sheet metal is thin if you have access to a tig welder it would work better then mig on this application if not then tack the corners then do the welds from the inside and use body filler on the out side to cover the cracks
yeah I dont have access to a tig. I may drive about an hour from here and just use their mig that has Argon on it and a little bit more adjustability instead of a hi and low switch. I am pretty bummed about the way the welds turned out. I new gasless wouldn't work very good but this was terrible. Welding from the inside will probably help too. Thanks for the tip.
Neat idea, agree on the weld inside an silicon the outside. I don't do body filler, trees/rocks don't like it too much.
I take it your XJ. Did you try the 180* thermostat? Big change in the overheating.

Yes it is an XJ. I don't have any overheating problems.........yet. It got a little warm the other day while sitting in traffic and I went home and wired up my aux. fan to turn on whenever I want. Now when I flip the switch the temp drops about 10 degrees, I just figure why not give all that heat a place to go by making a vented hood. Can't wait to get started in her again.
