    Default Jeep has no power

Ok so friend of mine gets done wheeling his 05 TJ today and comes over complaining he has no power. We get in roll around the block a few times and his power is a bit off. When you press on the gas it seems to me that you apply alot of pedal with little return.

So he leaves my house and calls a few minutes later saying he is dead. So go pick hiim up and I try his jeep out. When in first gear pedal floored getting about 2.5k RPM and when I jump to second its like dieing and no more power so have to downshift. Cant really get higher then 2.5k in first as there is no more pedal. Too me seems degenerative as its getting worse.

Following mods have been done in last month and not sure if has anything to do with it. Other than cutting off of the muffler from the CAT back has deffinately cost him in the back pressure but not sure if this has everything to do with his problem.

1 He cut off Muffler from CAT back.
2 He installed a new AIRAID intake
3 They went out crawling and they did hit some mud.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Check his air filter, i bet its packed with mud. The exact same thing happened to me one time after a desert run, changed a fuel filter, TPS, and was ready to tear down the engine, looked at my pre-runner on my K&N took it off and everything was good as new.

I had the same setup at the time, I had cut the cat back getting ready to install my new exhaust system.

If the air filter doesn't pan out try the Cat. If he got water inthe cat and it was hot it can mess up the honey cones causing it to be clogged up. If the cat is clogged it will have to much back pressure and won't have any power.

    Good Luck

Ok Air filter is clean. Nothing in there at all. The Cat is something I am going to go look at right now.
Is there a fuel filter on these things that isnt in the gas tank? Looking for one to see if maybe its clogged but dont see one going to look at it and take some pics.

If you cant visually tell your cat is clogged, once it gets dark outside start the jeep up and let it idle for awhile. If it's clogged, it will probably start glowing.
If not the cat, check your fuel. You can attach a pressure gauge to your fuel rail shraeder valve... I believe it should be 31 psi.

x2 on all this good advice but remember on an 05 tj you have 3 cats 2 on the exhaust manifold and 1 bring up the rear under the skid plate. my money is if one is bad it's the last one . one way to test it would be if it glows cut it off then try driving it down the road if power is back that's the problem put a new one on the tj then all is good with the world again.then it's miller time by the way there is not any o2 sensors around the rear cat so you won't throw any codes

    Hmmm all good ideas.
Now I was not part of this mod or upgrade so no clue. He deffinately doesnt have 3 CATs. Here is a pic demonstrating why.

LOL there is no rear exhaust and I think the back pressure that is created is not there and that might be alot of what is wrong. But would it be degenerative like it was over a week or two to lose power to nothing?

Why in the world would he cut his exhaust like that? A lot of the newer vehicles need a certain amount of backpressure to work correctly. No, the only fuel filter is attached to the fuel pump/sending unit inside the gastank.

Does he have any check engine lights?
