    Default Tire locks when full turn

    On my 97 ZJ, when I turn the wheel all the way left or right you can feel the front tires dragging or locking up. when the wheel is not quit all the way it feels like a flat. I am thinking both front U-Joints but would like some input. The Front right tire has even stopped and you can here it dragging.

    Normally I am the one people ask but when it is your own you want to make sure.

    aren't you the mechanic.lol Any way on my 96 i use to have problems with the calipers lockin up sometimes when i turned and it would stop the tires.

    I spoke to my dad and he said that it could be the diff locking up. Problem is I am not sure if it has Spider gears or Clutch Pack in front. It was driving fine when it was parked about a year ago. The caliper should not lock up only when turned b/c it moves with the tires. The limited slip would stop it though. Does anyone know what type of Diff it is and if a Spider would it just go bad sitting. Any Idea to save me money and fix the problem is needed.

    And yes I am the "Mechanic". But as I said, when it is yours it is different. and I am no expert on differentials.

    After looking around on web sites. It seems that the spider gears are bad and need to be replaced. The only difference in that mine is not making any noise but all other symptoms are there.

    Does anyone have spider gears for Dana 30. I believe that is the front diff in a 97 Grand Cherokee Laredo. (ZJ)

    i will look around see if i have my spiders. I recently installed a locker if not, If you can wait a week me and ryan are putting a locker in his jeep this weekend im sure he will be more then happy to give you his spider gears. Pm me with info.

    You think that is the problem. Is the front diff in his and your jeep the same. Is that all I need to do is pull the spiders out and replace, no other parts to change out?

    I would start there and yes all dana 30's are the same and thats what you have. Easy enough to swap spiders and put in some new fluid

    Agreed, I know how to change the spiders and I will even go to the auto shop to do it. I am going to wait to take it apart until I get the parts. Hopefully that fixes it.

    ok well email me your info and when me and ryan tear his down this weekend we will send you his spiders. Im sure he will have no objection that as they would otherwise go in the trash.

    check your wheel bearings too kevin. If their ****ed, your wheels are ****ed as well. Dunno if it'll lock up your wheels, but I've had it do some silly things on my mine when they went bad.
