Default Need some advice on pricing a taurus fan swap on a 91YJ

Hey, I figured I would come here for an honest answer. The story goes like this: I am in Iraq until 13 May. a month ago I purchased a new 2 speed taurus fan off ebay for $25. I asked a friend to ask his friend if he could do the install for me. ( I am going to a memorial day wheeling event when I get home.) The clutch on my fan is going, so I figured I'd get it done by someone else that way I could spend more time with my family. ( I only have 4 weeks home before I have to come back out her to Iraq.) The guy tells me he'll do it for $50 labor, plus whatever it costs in parts. I'm thinking.. good deal here. Well weeks go by, just today the guy tells me that after looking up the install, it's going to cost at least $120 in parts and $100 in labor. WTF? I could have sworn that a temp controller from auto zone, a solenoid, 30 amp relay, 3 way toggle and wire wouldn't cost $120. I just find it kinda irritating that the guy waits till the last minute then wants to more than double my total cost estimate , and he expressed that it is just that.... an estimate. Am I just imagining it, or is he trying to put one over on me?

So your doing away with the clutch fan and adding an electric? Or are you wanting to just replace the clutch fan itself?

for the fan cluth i would imagine its the same thing as when i used to have to do my ford rangers like 4x.... the job itself isnt hard at all or long to do... You could knock it out in under an hour.. and the tools can be borrowed from the parts store... if im understanding you correctly...

sounds like your adding an e-fan... as far as i know most kits already have em... but you bought just the fan... parts shouldnt be nearly as much as hes quoting you... go to autozone.com and price em yourself

so I did a price check on autozone. Including the temp control box for low speed (including relay), starter solenoid from a ford truck, and switch and wires, it should only cost me about $75 tops, for parts. I am just going to go ahead and do it myself. The wife said she would rather me take the 2 hours to do it than let someone else give me an over priced job.

I am adding an electric because the clutch on the mechanical is going. You know the theory, why replace when you can upgrade.

I just priced the parts from autozone. with using a starter solenoid from a 72 f350 for the hi speed and a hayden temp control unit from ebay plus wire and on-off-on sp/dt 20 amp toggle, I am looking at $68. Better than the $220 estimated bill.

I did the same mod to my CJ7. NO WAY it costs that much in parts OR labor!
