The ford D60s are not as strong as the chevy and dodge D60s. Sounds silly to say that a D60 isn't strong but the Ford ones have less material in the castings. Don't get me wrong, it's still a beefy freakin' axle!
A Sterling 10.5 doesn't have a ton of aftermarket support, but we just finished building a Sterling 10.25 for my Jeep. Basically it's the same as a 10.5, just a different ring gear size. We can hook you up with a disc brake conversion kit that we designed for mine.
IMO, yes, the pair is more than worth the $400 price. Be advised, take a couple of friends and a low-deck trailer when you go to pick them up. A fully dressed D60 front axle weighs in at about 500 pounds. A dressed Sterling is going to go about 250-300 pounds.
