Why are you wanting to put the amc 20 under there. And not the more popular 300?

Are you talking about the AMC 20 axle? With that there are alot of mounts to be welded on,and it's not a choice most would want to do.If your looking at a Dana 20 transfer case,I don't know if there are any convertions or not.

Shoot I didnt even see the AMC part I just assumed u ment dana 20. Hell no if its a narrow track axle. If so that deff wouldnt be a good choice for most apps. More info? you find this cheap on craigslist.

A later wide trac (82-86) would, with the proper brackets welded on.

The Mod 20's from CJ's have thin axle tubes, and 2 piece axles stock.

Some other mid '80's Jeep (waggy?) has the Mod 20 axle also, and it's stronger than the CJ's.

It would be a lot of work, but if you stitch weld the axle tubes and add 1 piece axles, it'll hold up to 33's no problem, and 35-36's if your easy on the right foot.

    Here's a thread on reinforcing the M20 axle: http://www.militaryjeepers.com/commu...read.php?t=267

I'm running 33's, and haven't had a problem yet since I did this.

They also have drum brakes, but if your fab skills are up to it, and the price is right, it'll work!

Why are you wanting to put an AMC20 under a TJ? Is just to be different? With the money and time you would have into making the AMC20 bolt in, you could swap in a D44. My wife's D35 is holding up to 37" Iroks under her XJ and it's been to Rausch Creek 3 or 4 times and she drives it everyday.

The CJ narrow and wide trac 20's are too narrow to fit. They wide trac is 56" WM to WM, Your TJ is 60" WM to WM. The only one I know of that will fit is a rare bird. The 84-86 MJ Comanchee had a AMC 20 rear option, they were 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern with solid axle shafts and 60" wm to wm. I know of one in a salvage yard near my house and it's the only one I ever saw. At any rate they are leaf sprung so you still need brackets.
IMHO your better off with a D44, or an 8.8.
