    Default Gauges

The only thing that's bugging me about the CJ is the dash components right now. I'm missing half of my knobs and the speedo doesn't work. Also, it leaked like the titanic during its break in run through a heavy rain (I know its unrelated). Therefore, I'm contemplating building a custom dash for it. My import tuner friend heard me talking about it and said he had just the thing:

They're custom made in USA and they're designed after the gauges in the B17. Combine with the stainless black knobs from 4wd:

and the black stainless 16 gauge steel CJ dash blank:

and I think I'll have something cool cooking. Plus, if I do it this way, I have unlimited options as to the setup I want, I can fix all the wiring behind it, the cowl seal, and can run wires and such for light and winch switches. Thoughts and ideas?

Typically if the speedo doesn't work - the cable to the tc is not hooked up/broken, or the gears in the tc are stripped.
I've tried several different NOS gauges (fuel/temp) and to no avail. So aftermarket for the fuel gauge (for now - I don't like running out of gas), and the temp will be in short order.
My wife likes the classic look of the dash, so I haven't changed it out. I like the few unique designs of the dashes I've seen. I say/vote for a 'blank' slate. I can't remember where I've seen the blank dash panels. Then as you've stated you can set it up as you want it.
The cowl gasket helped in keeping some of the water out, but look under the fresh air intake (remove the screen - below the windshield - just behind the hood). Make sure the hose that drains the water out is clean/open, and ensure that the hose attached to the fresh air vent (inside the cab that leads out through the firewall) is also clear.
I hope this made sense, my java hasn't kicked in yet.
    Later, T.J.

I'm digging your theme with the dash Chris! Sounds like you have a good plan.

I went with the Autometer Ultralites with mine. I ended up just making a bezel so that I could fit the speedo in that huge hole and cut out where I wanted to place my others.

I'm eventually, hopefully this fall, going to order one from this guy
    http://sites.google.com/site/doubledfab/jeep-cj-dashs

He says that most of his dashes run about $180, which from what I've looked at seems pretty go. His dashes look pretty sweet.
