    Default White smoke

That's gas right? There's a little white smoke that comes out when I shift or get on it. Just curious if there is something to adjust or whatnot.

Does it puff smoke only when the engine is still cold, or after it's warmed up too?
Have you checked your coolant level? If it's low, you could have coolant entering places it shouldn't be.
Maybe do a compression test on all the cylinders, but it could be your head gasket going.

White smoke on a gas engine is not usual. It usually is from coolant or oil somwhere it shouldn't be.

Hmm. It's not a lot of white smoke. I will definitely check the coolant levels, but my buddies who were following me home said that it only happened really when I tried to get on it a little on the freeway or when I shifted. So I'm guessing that throttle position has something to do with it

Welcome to the wonderful world of CJ's!

Check your coolant level and oil level, as suggested.

But chances are it's just the old 258 being a 258

I have 5K miles on a complete pro rebuild, and mine puffs on occasion.

Check the choke, if it's partially closed, it may cuase it.

The Carter BBD carb is known for being junk, and the idle tubes clogging.
If it hasn't been 'Nuttered' yet, that may help.

(the Nutter bypass eliminates the computer-the computer tells the carb what to do, and adjusts the spark at the dizzy, which is good when it's new and everything works like it should, bad once things get old!)

How is your coolant level? Does your exhaust smell sweet?
